Hits Who would have believed that a non-specific conversation between two people could evolve into something that has now spanned the globe. When we began this project we knew that there would inevitably be fans out there eager to lay their hands on as much OMD information that they could get hold of, but our most optimistic expectations were surpassed by the response that we received. The last year has been hectic, to say the least, but the new friends that we have found and all the invaluable information that we have received, more than compensates us for all the time and effort that we have put into this book. For those of you who were able to get the first issue of Compiled it will be immediately obvious that we have made a lot of changes, both in content and design. We appreciate that not all of our readers are avid collectors and as a result more emphasis has been placed upon factual and trivial items with the Discography sections complimenting, rather than dominating, the text. The book now has a more visual impact and all the images contained within have been specifically selected to illustrate the widest aspects of the band’s long and illustrious career. After much deliberation we have decided to forego the ‘PRICE GUIDE’ in favour of a simpler ‘UK RARITY RATING’. The main reason for this that the price of any item constantly varies and is always subjective. From our own experiences we have found that if somebody desires an item badly enough then they will pay whatever they have to in order to obtain it, whether that item is worth the money or not. There are also situations whereby an expensive item may not be that rare and vice-versa. Once again we appreciate that not every OMD issue will be contained within these pages but it is as near to complete as we are able to make it. Some items have been deliberately omitted, as in the case of PROMO issues, which are no different to the standard releases except for a white label or record company sleeve. Judging by the reaction to the last edition, we feel confident that these new changes will be received with ‘universal’ appreciation and have only been possible with the assistance of our many contacts around the world. We originally stated that this book was created ‘by the fans for the fans’ and we hope that this continues to be so for some time to come. |
